Listening To The Rain

It's raining now, and I'm sitting on the porch with Freddi by my side trying to get my thoughts and feelings in order after a rather busy weekend.

I had agreed to follow Eldest Child and his Partner to Jay on Saturday morning so they could drop the car off, and then I drove them to Montgomery to the trail head for their weekend overnight hike.

They are both into hiking and do this sort of crazy thing all the time, but this was the first time they had set it up so they had to cover 15 miles in the space of a weekend in order to get back to the car.
And my maternal instincts hesitated a bit as I watched them walk away from me in the middle of nowhere.

But, I had my own challenges to overcome getting my directionally challenged self home with google maps and spotty cell service.
It was a beautiful day for a long meandering drive on winding back roads, full of great mountain views, with and without wind turbines.

Google maps pulled through for me and I got home safe and sound.
Attempted to explain to my husband which route I had taken there and back, and ultimately had to rely on simply showing him my Google Maps route.

Feeling a bit wiped out I took a much needed nap in the afternoon, and woke up to a text message from our industrious Hikers asking if I could drive back to Jay in the morning, pick them up at the trail head 7 miles out from where I dropped them off and then return them to their car.
Ummm, okay.

I didn't really ask, mostly because it took some texting back and forth just to make sure I had my bearings, and the mapped out for me route sent, before their phones died.
I must say I was pretty proud of myself for finding them in a spot that was literally by the side of the road. At 8:00 in the morning.

Once home the day continued to go at a fast clip, including random people stopping by, celebratory motorcycle license (me) and 21st birthday(M) cake and family game night.

Which brings us to today.
Monday.

Freddi and I sort of getting back into our routine with our morning walk at the bike path and then home again to loiter on the porch to eat breakfast and wait for the much needed rain.
